Join us for an afternoon of food, fun, and community at our annual Nikkei Community Picnic!

Date: Sunday, August 18th, 2024
Time: Noon to 5pm
Location: Oaks Amusement Park, Area 12-13
Note: There is a $5 parking fee.

We will provide the following at no cost:

- A main dish of Fried chicken and a vegetarian entrée option.
- Water
- Eating utensils; plates and napkins
- Watermelon
- Shave Ice
- Games and prizes

Please bring your favorite dish to share or make a monetary donation to help defray the costs.

Its almost Obon season again! @oregonbuddhisttemple will be celebrating on the first Saturday of August. Attendance is free and all are welcome!

@friendsofminidoka and community partners have been fighting for nearly three years to preserve the solemn and reflective cultural landscape of Minidoka National Historic Site from, Lava Ridge, a massive commercial wind development.

Please see the link in our bio to sign their letter to President Biden to protect Minidoka. The deadline to sign on is July 10, 2024.

The proposed Lava Ridge wind project will forever alter Minidoka’s somber landscape and fails to honor the significance of the events that occurred at Minidoka as a place of reflection, healing, and education for the survivors, descendants, and public. The proposed project places 340 towers in the Minidoka NHS viewshed with 12 of those towers on the historic Minidoka footprint. The Minidoka community of survivors and descendants deserve the respect and acknowledgment of this gross violation of civil liberties by our nation’s government through the preservation of the site.

Yoko Ono’s interactive artwork Wish Tree invites guests to reflect and write their wishes for peace, which then get tied to the tree’s branches. Over time, the Wish Trees become adorned with these hopeful missives, evolving into a visual representation of the community’s collective aspirations for peace in our time. This interactive art, created by Ono in 1996, has collected more than two million wishes from visitors worldwide.
